DWI Easy English Version

The Easy English version of the Disability Wellbeing Index (DWI) was prepared by VALID (Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability) to make the DWI accessible for people who prefer or need simplified language. Developed in consultation with people with disability, it uses clear words, short sentences, and consistent formatting in line with Easy English standards.

The Easy English version includes the same 14 wellbeing questions as the Standard versions. These questions cover the following important life areas (domains):

  • Relationships

  • Daily Life

  • Meaningful Life

  • Housing

  • Health

  • Learning

  • Respect & Dignity

  • Safety

  • Finances

  • Work

Each question has these response options:

  • Always

  • Most of the time

  • Sometimes

  • A little bit of the time

  • Never

For the first three questions — about Relationships — a “Does not apply to me” option is also available. If this is selected, a follow-up question asks whether this affects the person’s wellbeing.
