DWI Standard Version

The Standard version of DWI was developed to make the DWI accessible for people with disability. It uses clear, direct language and was created in partnership with people with disability to reflect their experiences and priorities.

The Standard version contains the same 14 wellbeing questions as the standard DWI, covering key life areas (domains):

  • Relationships

  • Daily Life

  • Meaningful Life

  • Housing

  • Health

  • Learning

  • Respect & Dignity

  • Safety

  • Finances

  • Work

Each question has a consistent set of response options:

  • All of the time

  • Most of the time

  • Some of the time

  • A little bit of the time

  • None of the time

Example question from the Health domain:

“I am satisfied with my physical health.”

Response options:

  • All of the time

  • Most of the time

  • Some of the time

  • A little bit of the time

  • None of the time

For the first three questions about relationships with family, friends, and support workers there is an additional “Not applicable” option. If this option is selected, respondents are asked whether this affects their wellbeing.

Example question from the Relationships domain (with follow-up question):

“I am satisfied with the way I get along with my family.”

Response options:

  • All of the time

  • Most of the time

  • Some of the time

  • A little bit of the time

  • None of the time

  • Not applicable

If “Not applicable” is selected, follow-up question:

“Does not having this affect your wellbeing?”

Follow-up response options:

  • All of the time (Strong negative impact)

  • Most of the time

  • Some of the time

  • A little bit of the time

  • None of the time (No impact)
